Bring It

The focus of Bring It is Nia steps to generate a fitness workout using the primary movement form Jazz – Fun, Showmanship and Expression. Steps are among the tools we use to develop cardiovascular conditioning, along with the use of the three planes and the integration of the pelvis, chest and head. Working barefooted, we must become sensitive to the sensations of our feet during Nia steps. Steps in this routine include the foot techniques of Toes In and Out and Parallel, Heel Lead, Stepping Back on the Ball of the Foot, Ball of the Foot, and Whole Foot. 

Steps can be done in all directions, to the front, the side, the back, in place, across and around the room. Steps are inherently rhythmic so they connect us directly to the rhythms of the music. Steps can be balanced, as in right and left, or they can be one-sided. Steps can be slowed down and sped up. Steps can be large or small, aiding in the practice of Levels 1,2 & 3. We can also create patterns with our steps, adding rhythmic complexity and creativity. 

Steps provide excellent conditioning for all of the muscles of the base, aiding in the fluid experience of stability, as well as the freeing experience of mobility. Through Nia steps we engage with the space around us, keeping us aware of our bodies and our environment. As we step into our feet we find our center, and our ability to travel through time and space. 

Have fun with this routine as you bring your passion and playfulness to your practice. Let’s Bring It!

Manifesting and Being while Dancing NIA.
We have started the month with a focus of manifesting and being during this fertile harvest month.

As we step in to the dojo I am asking all of us to consider the triad 

Self * Environment * Community

How you reflect the qualities you desire from your Self, from Environment and from Community.

In the safety of the dojo, we can freely relate to the 3 from all 4 realms ~ the physical, the mental, the spiritual and the emotional.

Creating, receiving and giving as we reflect one another.

Here we go dancing darlings

I am excited to dance in the shimmering lights of the fall.  The autumn leaves dance in the air and gracefully color the earth with warmth as we prepare for the change of seasons, change of moods, change of weather.

I love our lives coming together for an hour or more of divine dancing. Thank you for lighting up the space with your being~ness.

Hi Tribe,

I had a wonderful week spending time with my family camping/hiking in the Steen Mountains, visiting the Alvord Desert, playing tons of frisbee golf at MacIver Park, Hornings Hideout and a course close to our home.  I am continually amazed at how good I feel in my body.  
After 32 years of facilitating movement I still desire to move/dance/delight
in a flock, a herd, a pack, a school of movers.

Thank you for showing up so we can share the experience of JOY!
Each day my body feels capable of taking the practice off the dance floor and onward into feeling good in life.
Thank you body! 


And what have you discovered and thanked your body for of late?

I find it so valuable to reflect on your body and say, 
"Wow body, you are...…"
